Those taking a camping break this Bank Holiday should ensure they have adequate insurance in case equipment is lost or damaged, according to an expert.
Spokesperson for Fair Investment Rachael Stiles says that campers may just assume that the items they take with them will be covered under their home contents insurance but this may not be the case and people need to check.
'Away from home cover' protects you from damage or theft even if an item is away from your home but it is optional and needs to be checked, especially if people plan to take high value items like MP3 players or laptops away with them.
According to Ms Stiles, if people are taking equipment worth more than £1,500 with them they need to inform their insurer and also points out that things stolen from unattended tents are unlikely to validate an insurance payout, as it is the responsibility of the policy holder to 'take every reasonable precaution to prevent loss or damage'.
This month the Telegraph reported that camping specialists Pontins claims campsites are busy with bookings and high street retailers are experiencing strong sales of camping equipment.
