The Canary Islands offer winter sun to UK tourists looking to take out
travel insurance and jet off to warmer destinations in the months ahead.
Paco Gutierrez, promotions executive from the Spanish Tourist Office, said Brits are an important market and more people are choosing to visit the islands over the winter because of the warmer weather on offer and the rich culture.
He commented: "Generally, for mainland Spain, tourism is more summer-orientated, but for the Canary Islands, they do have winter sun and a lot of people head there for the winter."
Mr Gutierrez added that developers are now creating more four and five-star luxury hotels and resorts on the islands to cater for increased visitor numbers.
According to the Canary Islands Tourist Board, Tenerife is the most popular island with 45.4 per cent of the share of British tourists, Lanzarote the next (24.6 per cent), closely followed by Gran Canaria (17.7 per cent).
