The first ever direct flight from Gatwick airport to Cape Verde, has fuelled the interest of UK travellers on the island.

Closer than other popular exotic locations such as the Maldives, UK tourists are drawn by the brief five and a half hour flight to Cape Verde, half the journey time of getting to the Maldives.

The tour operator the Cape Verde Experience has already had to increase its flight allocation to the island because of the strong demand from holidaymakers, a spokesperson revealed.

First flights to the island were launched in November of last year from London's Gatwick airport and Manchester airport, arriving at Sal in Cape Verde.

Due to its success, the tour operator is also looking to increase the number of destinations travellers will be able to go to in Cape Verde, planning to add Boa Vista and Sao Vincente to their roster.

According to tour operator spokesman Jenny Adams Cape Verde has an appeal to a "wide client base" as it can appeal to travellers looking for a stress-free beach holiday or those seeking exploration and adventure.

The Cape Verde Experience also expects there will be also be an increasing interest in investing in real property.
