Toyota GB has announced car insurance premiums should not be affected for owners of vehicles that are recalled by the vehicle manufacturer.

Individuals worried about the impact to their premiums have been put at ease by a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

They said: "The ABI confirms that motor insurance policies will continue to cover Toyota owners affected by the recall of certain models."

They added that any claims will be dealt with in the normal manner, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.

Elsewhere, Research from Consumer Intelligence recently revealed the cost of the average annual car insurance policy rose by 20 per cent over 2009 to stand at £564.69

Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said one way to tackle this trend is to purchase a vehicle in a lower insurance bracket or one that is more environmentally friendly.
