Price comparison site uSwitch is calling for a review on the additional charges imposed on customers by some car insurance providers.

The recommendations come following the publication of research suggesting that levies for additional services such as replacement policy documents and policy amendments could cost UK consumers as much as £333 million per year.

Vehicle owners are being charged an average of £22 annually as a result of these additional charges, with 14 million people requesting amendments, cancellation and duplicates on their policies.

Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch, comments: "Consumers need to know where they stand and the easiest way to do this is for the amount providers charge to be consistent across the insurance industry."

The price comparison site has also recently warned consumers that energy prices could be set to rise further in the future, adding that such increases in the industry could raise the average bill by £105.

InsureandGo's car insurance services searches the UK market of over 38 suppliers to find customers the quote that is most suited to their vehicle and driving habits.
