Before taking on any home design project, property owners should take the time to plan the refurbishment carefully to ensure they get the best end product, it has been claimed.
Linda Barker, interior designer and spokesperson for the Ideal Home show, said collecting samples and creating a mood board for each room is one way to research a refit.
She commented: "It is about going to the best showrooms to get the best ideas and looking how it is done at the very top end and then fitting your budget around it and not compromising on look."
Ms Barker added that while it is unlikely people will get the same product at a much discounted price, they can use these trips as inspirations for their own designs.
According to House Beautiful Magazine, retailers are keeping up with the demand for retro products by releasing clever remakes of classic models such as John Lewis's DAB radio and the re-release of SMEG's iconic 50s fridge range.
