Skiers looking to get away from the crowded slopes and heady apres-ski parties should consider a break in Champoluc in Italy, the Guardian has claimed.
The resort, which is situated about 90 minutes drive from Turin, offers a stark contrast to popular destinations in France such as the Trois Vallees.
Between these three mountains - Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens - more than 300,000 Britons take to the slopes every year, it explained.
In contrast, Champoluc offers something a little quieter.
Simon Brown, owner of local tour operator Ski2, commented: "This isn't Chamonix - there are no clubs, no casino, not even a swimming pool, and the most exciting shop in town is the butcher's."
And up on the piste, Guardian contributor Tom Robbins explained that while a few of the lifts are a little old and slow, there are never any queues to get on to the deserted slopes.
Meanwhile, Ski2 explains that Champoluc offers excellent snow for downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing.
