From September, drivers and motorcyclists will be facing more theory test questions, the Driving Standards Authority (DSA) has reported.

According to the DSA, more multiple choice questions will lead to higher standards and help to broaden the successful candidates' knowledge.

Currently, car and motorcycle bike tests consist of 35 questions and candidates must get 30 right.

As of September 3rd, the number of questions will be raised to 50, with a pass score of 43.

The time allowed for the theory section of the test will also increase, to 57 minutes, and fees are also set to increase, by seven pounds to £28.50.

"It is important that candidates prepare thoroughly for their theory tests in the same way they would any other exam. Increasing the number of questions means that the test ensures comprehensive coverage of the whole syllabus," said Jill Lewis, head of lifelong learning for the DSA.

The new version of the official theory test book has now been made available from the DSA website.
