The rise in the number of widely-available cheap flights has made hard-to-reach areas in a number of European countries more accessible to foreign travellers, Primelocation.com reports.

A spokesperson for the property website said that the increased availability of cheap flights has meant a rise in the number of services to small regional airports as well as the larger destinations.

Louise Hall, business director of Primelocation.com, said that the number of visitors to the Costa Brava and inland Murcia have increased significantly in the past few years.

"The further expansion of low-cost airlines into smaller regional airports in European countries has made areas originally hard to reach very accessible," she states.

Her comments follow a recent announcement by British Airways that it will introduce a number of short-haul flights throughout Europe from three London airports from the end of March.

The service will offer more frequent flights to destinations including Alicante, Faro, Palma, Malaga and Tunis.
