Those planning on taking a trip abroad in the coming months have been advised to check weather reports prior to travelling to avoid the risk of being caught up in stormy conditions.
Research by esure suggests that 79 per cent of holiday bookers did not know when the US hurricane season starts, while 87 per cent did not know when Asia's rainy season was.
As well as checking ahead, the group also advised consumers to make sure that they take out adequate
travel insurance protection before they travel.
Jacky Brown, head of travel insurance at esure, said: "A holiday package may look great from the outset, but come holiday time - you could be caught out by flying out to your destination, such as Mexico, during the hurricane season."
Taking out a policy was useful in making sure people were covered in the event of cancellation, the firm suggested.
America's hurricane season officially lasts from June 1st to November 30th.
InsureandGo offers a range of
travel insurance options to provide cover for destinations all over the world.
