Holidaymakers are being warned to check the amount of cover they have before jetting off, as new research reveals that a quarter do not know the details of their
travel insurance policies.
A study by HSBC found that 27 per cent of Britons go on holiday without knowing anything about their policy, while 55 per cent do not know exactly what is included in or excluded from their travel cover.
And a further 27 per cent have no intention of checking their policy before boarding their plans.
Nearly one in five people take out travel cover from their current account or credit card, rather than "a policy that is researched and purchased on an annual basis".
Michael Oliver, head of current accounts at HSBC, said: "Few people would dream of taking their family on a holiday abroad without travel insurance, but many are potentially leaving themselves and their loved ones exposed by not ensuring that they are adequately covered by the policy they have."
