Kids may be used to being caught up in the crowds at carnivals but a street party in Singapore has been created especially for children this spring.

Now in its seventh year, the Singapore International Festival for Children has grown to include art forms as diverse as theatre, dance, puppetry, mime, music and digital animation and there will be no shortage of performers with artistes from Britain, the US, Canada, Australia and Argentina.

A total of 12 short films from Columbia, Germany, Ireland and Belgium will be screened for kids between five and eight years old over the course of the festivals. Highlights include Greedy Pig from Belgium and the Green Worm from the US.

"It takes the platform of a unique festival such as this to be able to bring together a whole range of performances," said Ruby Lim-Yang, artistic director of ACT 3 International, which organises the festival.

For the first time this year, 'clowning' will become part of the festival's programme and experts in the art come from all over the world to compete for the kids' attention in what has become a hallmark festival in Singapore.

The Singapore International Festival for Children runs from March 7th to 17th this year.
