China celebrates Spring Festival Golden Week

Many sites across China saw large numbers of tourists over the weekend as the country observed Spring Festival Golden Week.

According to reports released by the national office of holiday tourism coordination, attractions in Beijing such as Yonghegong Lamasery, the Longqingxia Valley and the Forbidden City reached or surpassed their capacity.

Suzhou and Taihu Lake in the Jiangsu province saw peak numbers of travellers on Sunday.

The Lunar New Year holiday also lead to increased spending in a number of large cities, news agency Xinhua reports.

People visiting the region may also be able to enjoy the Spring Lantern Festival which takes place at various locations in Hong Kong on February 21st.
