Britons living in cities are the group most keen on taking a drive in the countryside, according to new figures from Confused.com.
The price comparison firm found that more than two-thirds (69 per cent) of Sheffied residents took time away from the stress of urban living at the weekend and headed for the countryside.
Residents in Belfast were said to be even more inclined to take a Sunday drive, with more than 85 per cent of people travelling outside the city. Indeed, none of those interviewed in the study said that the car remained unused over the course of the weekend.
Debra Williams, managing director at Confused.com, said: "The halcyon days of Sunday drivers appear to have been revived with city-dwellers in particular embarking on a UK-wide exodus on the day of rest."
She concluded by saying that with so many cars on the road at the weekend, it is important for drivers to keep safety in mind.
For those wanting to enjoy the summer in style, Confused.com has also recently advised that insuring a convertible costs only £32 more than a hard-top on average.
