A report from Saga Pet Insurance has found that one in seven claims made by animal-owners are the result of injury due to clumsy pet behaviour.

The Midlands is identified as the home of the nation's most reckless cats, with over a quarter of claims made resulting from accidental injury.

For canines, the south-east is the most accident-prone area, with dogs living in the region being twice as likely to cause themselves a mischief than their counterparts in Wales, who are the country's most diligent when it comes to personal safety.

The most common cause of claims for cats was involvement in a road traffic accident, while getting caught on branches or cutting themselves trying to squeeze through small gaps also a likely cause of injury.

Meanwhile, an employee at jml Insurance has learnt the hard way that failing to take out pet insurance can be costly, after he was left with a £2,500 bill following a series of treatments for his adopted rescue dog.

InsureandGo's pet insurance services aim to assure peace of mind for those whose pets are involved in an accident.
