Consumers continue to give pet names to their cars, although the most popular titles have changed in recent years, new research reveals.
A study from vehicle information provider HPI reveals that half of people surveyed admit to giving their car a pet name, with the most popular being Bessey.
And when such emotional attachments are formed, giving the vehicle some protection through adequate
car insurance cover may be a wise move.
Other popular names of the moment include Love Machine and Muscles, the research indicates. Although the names that were popular five years ago - the last time such a survey was done - are no longer anywhere near top of the list.
But consumers should be aware of the risks associated with forming attachments to a car before it has even left the forecourt.
Director of HPI Nick Lindsay said: "It's easy to get emotionally attached to the car you are looking to buy, but every day HPI identifies nearly 30 stolen vehicles and many of these will be sold as 'bargains' to unsuspecting buyers."
HPI has been checking vehicle histories since its foundation in 1938.
