Computer insurance could be essential for those following technology trends in their home.

Ashley Highfield, managing director and vice-president of consumer and online UK at Microsoft, said that computers are increasingly being used as TVs.

"The big trend that is new in the last year is rise of multifold laptops…around the home. The PC is becoming a TV screen," he said.

Talking at the Intellect Annual Regent Conference 2009, Mr Highfield said that the UK was a world leader in terms of "the reach" of online TV.

As well as watching TV shows on the internet, people are also using websites which allow them to upload and watch video content.

Figures from online competitive intelligence service Hitwise show that video sharing site YouTube is the most popular video site in the UK.

It is also the eighth most visited site by UK internet users.

Computer insurance from InsureandGo can help to reassure web-savvy Brits that should a machine get damaged, it can be repaired quickly.
