For those planning to use credit and debit cards while on holiday, MoneyFacts has urged people to look out for additional charges for overseas transactions.
The independent financial adviser suggests that many credit cards impose usage charges as high as three per cent for both purchases and cash transactions. The group adds that this can soon mount up for consumers carrying out multiple transactions.
"Taking cash out on your credit card is never advisable even in the UK, as not only is the interest rate much higher than on purchases but you will be charged the interest from day one," MoneyFacts suggests.
It adds that on top of this, a handling fee may also be imposed.
Consumers are warned that while debit cash transactions are often free in Britain, taking out money overseas can come at a price.
Elsewhere, moneysupermarket.com has suggested that a strong euro is encouraging Britons to take holidays outside of the continent in search of cheaper deals.
