British holidaymakers should steer clear of travel insurance from agents and operators, but should instead shop around for the best value cover, according to InsureandGo.

Company director Perry Wilson said that consumers could save themselves around a third in premiums by just carrying out research before taking out a policy, website Travel Mole reports.

While holidaymakers spend around £670 million on travel insurance every year, the online insurance broker said that around £275 million could be cut from this total by merely shopping around.

Mr Wilson told the website: "One way of avoiding paying over the odds for travel insurance is not to purchase cover from travel agents and tour operators as our research shows they can be double the price of the most competitive insurers."

InsureandGo is one of the country's most competitive insurers. Call them for advice on the policy that's right for you.
