Drivers will soon be able to obtain their
car insurance certificates electronically, it has been announced.
Speaking at the Association of British Insurers' (ABI) motor conference, road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick explained that actions will be taken to allow road users to receive their policy documentation via email in future.
ABI assistant director of property, motor and liability Justin Jacobs welcomed the move, stating that motorists will benefit consumers through improved customer service.
"The insurance industry will in the future be able to provide quicker, more convenient and more reliable delivery of these important documents to their customers," he added.
Mr Jacobs concluded that electronic delivery is also more environmentally-friendly than traditional distribution of such paperwork.
In recent days, the association announced that more than 100,000 uninsured vehicles have been seized in roadside checks.
