It's a good idea to extend
home insurance policies to cover possessions while out of the country, the AA has suggested.
Advising those looking to insure second homes and property overseas, the group stated that this makes the claims process more convenient in the event that property is damaged, lost or stolen during an overseas visit, as well as offering reductions on travel cover policies.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager at the AA, explained: "If you are taking out
travel insurance, you don't need to include the baggage element because that is covered with your home insurance."
However, he did note that there are limits on the extent of overseas cover provided by home insurers.
According to the most recent governmental statistics, 211,000 Britons currently own overseas property.
Meanwhile, statistics from Zurich Private Clients has shown that one in ten of those people who do have a second home abroad do not have property insurance protection.
InsureandGo offers competitive
home insurance options, as well as an array of travel cover.
