Holidaymakers who want to jet off and top up their tan this year could find the Greek island of Crete an ideal destination.

And after booking travel insurance, getting flights and sorting accommodation, upon arrival on the island all people have to do is find a beach to suit them.

According to the Telegraph Travel pages, Crete's best beaches can be found on its south coast.

The newspaper notes that Matala was "once a hippy haven", saying that the laid-back vibe of the area still exists.

For Brits with young children, Paleochora could be the ideal beach to visit, with its shallow water and sandy shore.

Plakias beach is shingle and those more concerned with swimming than sunbathing could head to the pebble beach at Sougia.

Crete is the largest of all the Greek islands.

InsureandGoadventure insurance can cover holidaymakers for any water sports they may try when visiting one of Crete's many beaches.
