UK travellers are looking for culture and adventure when they take out holiday insurance and head abroad, it has been claimed.

Sharron Livingston, editor at thetravelmagazine.net, said people are choosing to do more interesting things when going on holiday - such as scuba diving, safari or swimming with dolphins - in a bid to give them something to talk about when they get back home.

"Travellers look for something a little different. Culture, adventure, activity and learning holidays offer time out with a feeling of having done something worthwhile," she commented.

According to villa holiday specialist CV Travel, when it comes to the British choosing holidays, conspicuous consumption has given way to personal fulfilment.

This means travellers are becoming more interested in quality when it comes to a trip, with value for money remaining a priority, but now attention has shifted to more cultural endeavours that will help enrich a person.
