Transport minister Sadiq Khan has called for increased access to cycle training for children across the UK.
He claimed the government's new Active Travel Strategy aims to help make Britons healthier by promoting less of a reliance on the car for transport.
In addition, the scheme is promising to deliver a greater number of cycle parks throughout the UK, secure cycle parking at every railway station, an increased push for 20mph speed limits in built-up areas and ensuring every major public sector employer is signed up to the Cycle to Work Guarantee.
Mr Khan commented: "Instead of automatically reaching for their car keys, I want to see people feeling confident enough to jump on their bike or pull on a pair of trainers.
"I am confident that this strategy will achieve this, making active travel a genuine and viable option for everybody."
Elsewhere, Rich Leigh, founder of Fat Free Fitness, recently said the government must act to ensure healthy living schemes - such as the Department of Health's Change4Life initiative - are taught to children as part of their overall education.
