Passenger flow through Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO) airports in Cyprus hit an all-time high last month, according to operators Hermes Airports.

Nearly one million passengers travelled through the two airports during August of this year, an increase of almost 9 per cent year-on-year.

The increase was in spite of the Lebanon evacuation in the summer of last year which had boosted passenger numbers during the period.

And Larnaca had significantly more traffic, with an increase of just under 13.5 per cent from a year ago.

'We are delighted to see such record numbers at our two airports for August 2007. These figures confirm the continued strength of Cyprus as an attractive destination,' said Jenni Fernando, marketing manager for Hermes Airports.

Both airports are currently being expanded and modernised to deal with the extra passengers, including extended parking and catering outlets.

And both airports will also acquire new terminals, Paphos in November of 2008 and Larnaca in November of 2009, part of a plan worth over £420 million.
