Brits planning a home improvement spree have been advised that making amendments to their property does not have to be expensive.

Interior designer Adrienne Chinn said using bright colours as "zippy accents" can brighten up even the most boring home and this can be achieved simply for the cost of a tin of paint.

She commented: "In the way that you can use wallpaper on a feature wall, you can also use paint on a feature wall and have just the one wall of a room done in a more vibrant colour."

Ms Chinn added that added accessories like cushions and rugs can also help to brighten up a bland space.

According to House Beautiful magazine, retro-patterned fabrics, tailored upholstery and free-standing appliances are returning to homes across the UK as the 50s trend that is presently sweeping the nation hits home interiors.
