When carrying out home improvements, many DIY enthusiasts focus on the interior rather than the outside of their home, the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) has pointed out.

Commenting recently, Peter Bolton King, chief executive of the organisation, explained that bathrooms and kitchens are particularly popular focus points for those looking to renovate.

Advising those who are thinking about making changes to their property, Mr Bolton King suggested: "What people are going to be interested in is not on the outside, but inside what does it look like?"

He also suggested that for those who already have a lot of free space in their home, there is little to gain from carrying out structural extensions.

According to recent statistics from Liverpool Victoria, 4.7 million homeowners throughout the UK are planning to refurbish their bathroom, while 57 per cent have already carried out work in the past year.
