It is important for those planning a gap year to ensure they take out
travel insurance for their big trip and do not underestimate the dangers that are out there, it has been claimed.
Cathy Goodyer, a spokesperson for Nomad, said often young people heading off on gap year travels do not plan ahead and can fall foul of opportunistic thieves or other dangers while abroad, meaning it is important to have thought ahead and put some cover in place.
She commented: "A lot of students end up having their passports stolen and generally speaking, are seriously underinsured because they are doing it on the cheap."
According to intotheblue.co.uk, 54 per cent of Brits responding to a recent survey said they hoped they could jump out of a plane at some point over the next decade.
Meanwhile, 34 per cent said they are hoping to climb a mountain.
