Upcoming sporting events to be held in the UK give the tourist industry "an enormously fantastic series of opportunities to capitalise on", it has been suggested.
And those planning to visit London to watch the Olympic events in 2012 have plenty of time to book hotels, get cheap travel tickets and book
holiday insurance for their break.
Head of government and public affairs at VisitBritain Bernard Donoghue said that the "decade of sport" which includes Twenty20 cricket and the Olympics will give the UK tourist industry a boost.
Figures from VisitBritain suggest that the 2012 Olympics could make as much as £2 billion for the international visitor economy in the UK.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport recently said: "From this year's World Twenty20 Cricket, through London's Olympics, to the Ryder Cup and the cricket World Cup, the next ten years will provide British sports fans with an incredible range of world class sports events."
Holiday insurance from
InsureandGo may be a wise investment to protect sports fans travelling to such events.
