A spokesperson for Tourism for All has announced that recent gains have been made in making travel more accessible for disabled passengers.
He points to recent legislative changes that have meant air carriers cannot refuse to accept a reservation from a passenger because of disability or reduced mobility, except on the grounds of safety.
Further European Commission legislation which will come in to effect on July 26th will mean that EU airports are required to provide active assistance to disabled passengers from seat to departure point.
Committee spokesman Brian Seaman stated that while some airlines were "going all out" to improve travel conditions for disabled passengers, there was still room for improvement.
"It's only through encouragement that all these businesses have made changes," he added.
The Disabled Persons Travel Advisory Committee currently has a working group which aims to improve flight conditions for those requiring individual care.
This involves examining the layout of new aeroplanes to try and ensure that needs are met with adequate floor space, for example.
