Motorists who are disqualified from driving in the UK or Ireland will have to serve their full ban even if they move between countries.

Road safety organisation Brake stated the implementation of new legislation making vehicle offences like dangerous driving or driving without car insurance cross-border.

Campaigns officer for Brake Ellen Booth said: "Offenders who are disqualified for risk-taking on roads should not be 'let off' their ban simply because they have crossed the border into another country and Brake urges the government to negotiate similar agreements with other countries."

Ms Booth added that is has long been overdue for this common sense approach to be put into practice.

Elsewhere, Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, recently noted Brits should now be looking to purchase vehicles that are in a lower insurance bracket, as increases in premiums over the last 12 months have seen the average policy rise to £564.69.
