A family in Worcester are ruing not having pet insurance after it was revealed they now need to find £2,000 or face their dog - Scruffy - dying.

The Worcester News reported that the two-year-old terrier slipped on turf over the bank holiday weekend and hurt his back and the Cross family now face the difficult decision of whether to find the money to treat him or not.

Mum Amanda Cross told the newspaper: "We had the choice to take him to a specialist or have him destroyed."

"It's just awful," she added.

Having already spent more than £300 on vet bills, the family urged anyone with an animal they love to take out pet insurance as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, SFGate.com recently advised pet owners who are considering taking a trip with their animal that they should remember to take the number of their local vet with them in case anything happens while they are away.

Pet insurance from InsureandGo provides peace of mind that vet bills will be covered in an emergency.
