A government crackdown on alcohol-related road deaths is set to lead to a drastic reduction in the drink drive limit.
Roads minister Stephen Ladyman said that the Department for Transport would produce proposals for consultation next year.
Mr Ladyman also added that once the government felt comfortable that the current drink drive limit of 80mg per 100ml of blood had been fully implemented, there would be strong consideration to reduce it further to 50mg, almost by half.
According to the Department of Transport, there were over 1,000 17 to 19-year-olds involved in drink driving incidents in 2005, a rise of over 200 accidents since ten years ago.
A study by the European Union that showed that the UK recently had been lagging behind in lowering road causalities compared to the rest of the EU, particularly in accidents relating to drink and driving, has also been said to have led to the government's strong report.
If you are going to get behind the wheel, make sure you are fully covered.
