Dubai continues to promote itself to the wider world and has just launched its first Dubai Fashion Fiesta, which will feature high profile designers and buyers.
Initially building its wealth on the back of oil and gas exports, the city of Dubai now increasingly relies on its tourism sector, among others, to drive its growth.
And the city has shown no qualms about spending big, having recently hired architect Tom Wright to build the world's tallest hotel, the Burj Al-Arab, in an artificial island.
Now it is hoping to be at the centre of the fashion world, too - between July 26th and 28th it hopes to attract the fashionable and the glamorous at its Dubai Fashion Fiesta, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Among the well-known attendees from the fashion world will be Parisian designer Lloyd Klein and Indian designer Satya Paul.
Lloyd Klein, whose clients include Hollywood stars such as Halle Berry and Renee Zellwegger, initially trained as an architect and brings a formal style and controlled elegance to his designs.
His show will feature on the opening day on Thursday.
According to the organisers, Emirate Vision, it is hoped that the Dubai Fashion Fiesta will make the city the fashion capital of the region.
