Research unveiled at the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles Conference has revealed that the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system would likely reduce fatal road accidents by a quarter.
Vehicles that had been equipped with the new ESC technology were 25 per cent less likely to be involved in fatal road accidents.
Researches also said the technology had the potential to reduce serious accidents caused by skidding and overturning by up to 60 per cent.
There have already been numerous studies showing the benefits of ESC on car safety, but none on UK roads.
This latest report was commissioned by the Department for Transport (DfT) and carried out by the University of Loughborough Vehicle Research Centre (VRC) to have statistics that are UK-specific.
The positive results led road safety minister Dr Stephen Ladyman to urge manufacturers to include the relatively cheap technology into their models more often.
Dr Ladyman also advised drivers to have their cars equipped with ESC if it didn't include it already.
