The eclectic look is becoming more fashionable at present, with many homeowners redecorating to put their own stamp on a property, it has been claimed.

Linda Barker, interior designer and spokesperson for the Ideal Home show, said colour and pattern are becoming increasingly important in home design, with bland and neutral tones falling by the wayside in favour of bolder statements in the months ahead.

She commented: "It is quite an eclectic look that is out there now. It is not formulaic, it is not boring, it is not minimalistic, it is quite exciting. It is about getting influences from all over the place and employing them in your own home."

According to Emma Love - writing in the Daily Mail - neon colours are coming back in vogue, but not to the same extent that they were in the 1980s.

She noted neons are not for "shrinking violets", but instead should be used by people wanting to make a bold statement.
