Consumers planning a winter getaway have been advised that Edinburgh at Christmas is a "sight to behold".

According to Visit Scotland, the capital boasts a bevy of tourist activities and attractions throughout the year, but comes into its own as one of Europe's most beautiful cities during the festive season.

Commenting recently, Gillian Thompson, a spokesperson for VisitScotland's Winter White campaign, said: "The city sparkles in glittering brilliance as the lights of the Winter Wonderland illuminate Scotland’s capital."

She went on urge tourists to visit the Princes Street Gardens, which come alive during the festive period as a "huge range" of stalls offer the best in Christmas fare.

Edinburgh promoters Stripe have confirmed that the gardens will also play host to Santa's Reindeer, where children can watch Santa feed them daily before their big night on Christmas Eve.

The event is free to enter and is organised with the help of Cairngorn Reindeer Centre.
