A leading insurance comparison website has welcomed the government's decision to allow
car insurance certificates to be issued electronically.
Insurancewide.com noted that the police are increasingly cracking down on uninsured road users and that motorists who do not have a copy of their documentation in their vehicle risk unnecessary fines and even confiscation if they are stopped by the police.
James Harrison, chief executive of the firm, commented: "This is good news, especially for newly insured drivers who sometimes spend several days, even weeks waiting for their motor insurance certificates to arrive."
He added that the arrival of such documentation will allow drivers to have almost immediate access to their paperwork, reducing the risk of drivers being incorrectly perceived as uninsured.
In recent days, the Association of British Insurers noted that over 100,000 uninsured vehicles have been impounded by police this year.
