Ground has been broken on the Australian site which will become a new luxury tourist facility, it has been announced.

The Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa will be located in New South Wales and is the first project for developer Emirates outside Dubai when it opens in late 2009.

Facilities at the resort will include a restaurant, pool areas and conference facilities while the rest of the 4,000-acre site will be turned into a conservation area.

Plans are in place to reintroduce indigenous plants and animals to the area as the location develops.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum told TravelMole: "We are all delighted to see this project taking shape after many years of careful planning."

Until the resort opens, visitors to New South Wales can enjoy attractions such as the Pet Porpoise Pool marine park or Santai Casuarina Beach.
