Engineers at BT's research lab in Ipswich are developing a motion-sensitive laptop, according to media reports.
The laptop will work much in the same way as a Nintendo Wii and will benefit those with disabilities who might find operating a mouse or keyboard difficult.
"We want to give people access to services in as simple a manner as possible," David Chatting, a BT researcher, said.
"PCs are still very complicated. We are interested in the older user who is slightly fearful of this technology. The PC, monitor and mouse puts them off."
The BT Balance laptop can be operated by tilting it to the left or right, up or down, just like an Etch-A-Sketch toy.
Developers said it may also be useful for people who want to use it on busy commuter trains.
