Euro price a 'growing concern'
The falling exchange value of the pound against the euro is a growing consideration for consumers planning overseas holidays, Moneysupermarket.com suggests.
According to a spokesperson for the price comparison group, if the fall continues, there is the possibility that there will be a downturn in the number of people visiting EU destinations in favour of long-haul holidays.
Kayte Williams, holidays manager at the firm, explained that because holidays are costed in advance, it is unlikely a dramatic reduction will be seen in the remainder of this season.
"The cost of European destinations is still relatively cheap or cheaper than long-haul. But we will possibly see the increase next year if they are being costed at today's rates," Ms William explained.
Recent statistics from the Post Office have suggested that Thailand, South Africa and Egypt are among the cheapest long-haul destinations, with Bulgaria identified as offering the best value of all European countries.
