Britons are spending almost £18 billion on European holidays, the highest level since the euro was introduced in 2002.
Marks & Spencer Travel Money reports that if stacked vertically in 5 euro (£3.80) notes, the amount spent by British holidaymakers in Europe would reach a height of 552,000 metres.
The group expects this upward trend to continue as Britons look to head abroad to enjoy the Easter holidays and escape to the sun sooner than usual.
M&S Travel Money manager, Fraser Millar, said: "The euro is our favourite form of holiday cash, accounting for 58 per cent of all currency sales in the UK. With the recent wintry weather at home and an early start on the spring/summer season, 2008 could be another record year for the euro."
Superbreak.com reports that the top five European holiday destinations are Prague, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Rome.
InsureandGo offers travel insurance packages that suit a range of travel requirements and cover a wide range of holiday destinations.
