The 'terrific exchange rate' is driving UK tourism to the US, and not the fascination with celebrity culture, argued a spokesperson for travel agents Thomson.
According to Thomson, the 2:1 exchange rate is making travels to the US a very attractive option for many UK residents.
The comments were prompted by the recent move of David Beckham to Los Angeles in the US, which some predict will cause a rise in celebrity tourists looking to join their idol and see him play for the LA Galaxy.
A Thomson spokesperson commented that celebrity tourism was definitely on the rise and increasingly a factor in the advertisement and marketing of holidays, which now sometimes link a destination to a celebrity that holidays in the same place.
'I don't think it used to be that way maybe even 15 years ago, but it certainly is the case now,' she said.
Thomson expected a rise of holiday goers to Los Angeles, but included the exchange rate and the terrific weather as main factors, not only a wish to see the ex-Manchester United superstar.
And there was also a growing wish to take part in adventure holidays that were as far away from celebrity glamour as possible, with exotic locations such as Morocco on the rise.
