In its review of the insurance comparison market, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) has asserted that it found evidence of both good and bad practice and called for continued clarity of information provided.
The FSA examined 17 comparison websites examining areas such as whether consumers were informed of coverage levels as well as price on items such as car or
van insurance policies.
It also investigated whether unique selling points of individual policies were identified alongside headline price.
Ed Harley, head of financial promotions at the FSA, said that the group welcomed innovation competition in the growing comparison marketplace.
Responding, price comparison service uSwitch commented: "Price comparison sites play an important role in helping consumers navigate a crowded marketplace, make complex decisions and identify the best product for their needs whilst saving money."
The FSA will follow up the report with an on-site investigation to check that information provided by sites is valid and up-to-date.
