Saturday 26th January will see the start of the annual Sydney Harbour Ferrython, which is expected to attract more than two million participants.
Thousands of spectators too will line the harbour and its famous bridge to watch the regatta, which will showcase Australia's finest ferries as they battle for the coveted Ferry Champion title.
There will also be a separate competion to find the best dressed ferry in the afternoon, with the winner being announced at the Jazz On The Water evening concert.
The event will form part of the Australia Day celebrations which aims to commemorate the nation's commitment to culture, freedom and diversity.
Elsewhere in the country on the January 26th there will be events such as the great Australia Day breakfast in Melbourne and the Darling Harbour celebrations.
January 26th was chosen for Australia Day as it commemorates the first fleet landing of 1788 which established a penal colony on the island, which is now one of the world's major tourist locations.
