There are fewer uninsured drivers in Britain than there were two years ago, according to a spokesperson from the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).
The association reports an estimated ten per cent fall in the numbers of drivers without
car insurance.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba, partly attributed the drop to improved counteractive measures.
"Police have now got access to the motor insurance database and the power to seize uninsured vehicles," he said.
He added: "In 2007, approximately 150,000 [vehicles] were seized by the police and in 2006 this number was 78,000."
Mr Trudgill said that Biba was expecting to see a similar increase in 2008.
Drivers without insurance cost the motoring public more than £500m annually, according to the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB).
Uninsured drivers are also responsible for 23,000 injuries and 160 deaths per year, the MIB reports.
