Ford has announced that the introduction of the government's car scrappage scheme has seen the company take orders of more than 12,000 vehicles to date, news that could be of interest to anyone purchasing car insurance for their new Ford.

Ford dealerships across the country are on average taking 300 orders per day under the scheme, with the Ford Fiesta being the most popular choice with motorists.

The company noted that so far, orders for its vehicles have helped to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles in the UK by 87,000 tonnes per annum.

Ford of Britain managing director Nigel Sharp said: "Ford has taken a healthy share of scrappage business considering the limited number of models we have in the budget area, which represents the vast majority of these sales."

BMW has also recently been in the news following the launch of its BMW 316d ES Saloon.

The company claimed that the vehicle is its most fuel-efficient 3 Series to date, with the car capable of 62.8mpg, producing emissions of 118g/km of CO2.
