Tokyo becomes the centre of a number of flower picking festivals next month and is therefore ideal for anyone who wants to bring a little bit of the east back to their British gardens.

From March 21st to April 8th, flower lovers can head to the 41st Hachijo Island Freesia Festival, a popular event for selling and celebrating fressia flowers, which are strongly aromatic and ideal for the garden.

The festival takes place within the stunning confounds of Hachijo Island, where festival goers can pick wild flowers, learn about how to plant the safely and artistically, while taking part in a competition to win bouquets of fressias.

Hachijo Island is a tiny volcanic islet located just off the coast from Tokyo and takes no more than hour to drive around.

Due to its unique location and unexpectedly cold sea, there is a vast number of fascinating scuba diving spots where beginners and veterans alike can explore the stunning wildlife at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
