As mornings become icier, the number of car insurance claims made due to theft are seen to rise, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).

Technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba Graeme Trudgill explains that an increase in an activity known as "frosting" has been noted - where unattended vehicles are stolen as their owner leaves them to defrost.

"Unfortunately, gone are the days when you can leave your door open ... and the same goes with your car. You do need to take security measures there," he adds.

Mr Trudgill therefore advises motorists to remain with their vehicles while they defrost and not return to the house.

A new report by Endsleigh Insurance Services identified Hull as the riskiest city for car theft and Swindon as the safest.

Consumers shopping around for a competitive car insurance quote may find that they can get a great deal on a policy from InsureandGo.
