Inconsistencies in the quality of service for business travellers have led to the rise of business class only flights, argued a spokesperson for consultancy to the air travel industry Ascend.
The business class only flights are able to offer business travellers a whole environment suited to their needs, with features such as flat beds, fewer seats and a 30 minute check-in, which are not possible when sharing with economy class passengers.
It remains a popular way to fly, with data from the Office for National Statistics showing that UK residents made over 9 million business trips abroad last year.
And in the first quarter of this year, more than 2.3 million business trips had already been taken, so that numbers are set to more or less match those of last year.
"In any big market, like London-New York, you are bound to find particular niche markets of people that will travel at a certain price for a certain kind of service. The business traveller has to travel and is prepared to pay a premium," said a spokesman for Ascend.
